Bi-polar Disorder and Decreased Libido

Question:
I have no sex drive I also have bi polar disporder and am on medications for this. Is it likely that these drigs are the cause? (Lamictal and clonapin with occassional Zypraxia)

Response:
None of the medications you listed (Lamictal, Klonopin and Zyprexa) are reported to have the side effect of decreasing sex drive.  Patients tolerate medication in different ways, it is best to check with your psychiatrist if this combination does not suit you.

However since depression is one of the phases of bi-polar disorder that is characterized by decreased libido, which may be part of the problem.  Work with a therapist to identify your cycle of depression and manic phases and how it affects you.
