Claustrophobia

Question:
I have a case of claustraphobia. I do not mind planes or cars or any social situation but extreme enclosed spaces bother me greatly. my natural instinct to fight and flee from harm (the enclosed space), i can\'t help it. caving (when you crawl in caves and you cant move anywhere but in one direction scare me to the point of tears (i never actually cried because i refuse to put myself in that situation). it worked quite well for me.
but im going into the army know. how can i cure this problem in two weeks (i wont have a choice when im in basic) ANY HELP ON THE MATTER WOULD BE APPRECIATED... CHRISTOPHER

Answer:
Hello Christopher
Two weeks is a very short time to cure something that has been a problem for quite some time. Couple of suggestions would be to start practicing 'Relaxation Exercises'... you can find a simple technique posted on crescentlife.com These can be powerful in overcoming fears.

Another suggestion is to do some 'Visualization Exercises'... ie: imagine yourself doing what makes you feel claustrophobic. Trace your steps through each step, if you start feeling anxious, stop and relax and then start again. As you imagine these scenes over and over it will not feel as overwhelming.

Try 'Subliminal Tapes'. The sites listed below have tapes on overcoming fears... these can be powerful and are effective.

I hope this helps.
