Co-Dependency

Question:
I am a 45 yr old male who has a co-dependency issue. In the past I have used drugs to cope. I have been attending Narcotics Anonymous and find that it is not helping too much. Please send me some information about this illness.    Thank you

Answer:
Co-dependency has to do with one’s way of being and relating to the world around us.  This is based on our beliefs, views, attitudes and expectations about others and ourselves. Counseling would be the best way to go.  Educating your self about co-dependency is a good place to start.  Check out the information about co-dependency on crescentlife.com.

The function of support groups like AA and NA, etc. are to provide support and sharing… these are not substitutes for therapy.  Just attending these groups is not enough to bring about changes.  It is not uncommon to come across people who can quit drinking and drugging without working on their emotional and psychological issues with a counselor, and generally they do not see a marked change in their quality of life, since without counseling their behavior patterns don't change (except the usage of chemicals).
